“I’ve been to Pybus four times now. Once every three years, and on my birthday each time. Each adventure has become a cherished memory, and although it is said that time dulls all effect, I still find myself captivated anew each stay. The beauty of the people, of the delicious food, of the simple peace, and, of course, of the ever-inviting ocean. There is no place on earth quite like here.” –James P.
“This trip exceeded my expectations! Shrimp, crab and fish!! Being able to catch all this myself is an experience I’ll never forget. It was amazing to connect with nature and be grateful for our bounty.” –Shane C.
“I never knew I loved fishing so much until this trip to Pybus Point. The boat captains were great and really knew their stuff. This is not just fishing, it’s CATCHING fish!. Reeling up [that] yellow eye was an amazing feeling. I can’t wait to get back there!” –Chandler K.
“They say a picture is worth a thousand words. That’s true in most cases but sometimes… no amount of words or photos can justly tell the tail of a true fishing adventure! Sore biceps and a lower back are the real evidence of a fantastic day on the water with Captain Alex. This summer my father, two sons and I spent five days at Pybus Point lodge and had the trip of our lives.
We spent hours on end with double… triple… and even quadruple whammies reeling in halibut, giant lings, massive yellow eye and lantern jaw. There is a board in the lodge with the names of those fishermen who’s catch meets a certain weight or length criteria (trophy standards for each species) and Captain Alex got my boys on that board three times that week!!!
While reeling up monsters from deep was always the highlight each day, we couldn’t help but lose ourselves in our beautiful surroundings. The blue waters were teaming with whales, porpoises, and otters. The breathtaking mountain vistas with cascading waterfalls rivaled those of Hanalei In Kauai, although worlds apart.
After a day of fishing we’d grab some rods, jump on a skiff, and create yet another adventure as we’d cruise between the islands in pursuit of more halibut. Most often, this turned into our own self-guided whale watching tour. One evening, what had to have been a fifty foot whale slowly surfaced just yards in front of the boat. Still to this day all I can say is… Wow!
The entire staff at Pybus Point lodge will make you feel like family, including the resident dogs that befriended my boys.
To best sum it up best, on the evening we returned home my wife asked the boys why they seemed so sad to be back? They simply said, we miss Pybus Point.” –Tate J.
We took advantage of every last bit of nature during our week at Pybus Point Lodge. While the fish were swirling around us, nervous we might be fishing again, we instead took the kayaks out for a spin to the beach to enjoy the setting sun and cross our fingers we might catch a glimpse of a few bears. Our kayak trips never disappointed and before you knew it we were back enjoying the campfire telling our bear stories before another day on the water.” –Hayley S.
“When we first glimpsed Pybus Point Lodge from our float plane, we knew had arrived at a very special place. After landing, were greeted like old friends and whisked off for our first day of fishing. The week just got better and better. The fishing, the meals, the staff, our boat Captain, Alex, and our fellow guests all combined to make our stay there unforgettable. The highlight of our experience came the last day of fishing when, out of nowhere, a pod of humpback whales surfaced right next to our boat! What a sight! Pybus Point Lodge is truly a magical place.” –Judy A.
“It took us almost 28 years and another generation to come along for the Fay boys to return to Alaska. We always said we would go back to fish and oh boy did we! Until this day I never knew what a Yellow Eye was or how special they are as a species. We caught our quota on the first day out. A magical catch on a wonderful vacation with my Dad, brother and nephew. Thanks to Capt. Casey, Jody, Scott and the entire staff for a trip of a lifetime.” –Robert F.
“We brought our son with us for the 1st time to Pybus Point. We knew we would have great fishing in this remote location and wanted him to enjoy it with us. We were not disappointed. Every day we caught numerous salmon, sea bass, or halibut, yellow eye, and lingcod. […] Smooth water, great weather, and wonderful food make this a great trip. Oh and don’t forget the whales.” –Lonni R.
“Even if you don’t like to fish, this would be worth the price. Everything from the whales we saw every day to the scenery from my balcony is unbelievable. I guess that is why i took a thousand pictures, as i might not believe its was not my dreams in 20 years.” –Garret M.
“I love Alaska and Pybus Point was the best. So much fun with my family, great food and the greatest fishing experience ever! On our last day out, I caught [a] monstrous ling cod. Wow! What a feeling.” –Erianne K.
“We were in good hands from the flight in from Juneau until our delivery back to the Juneau airport five days later. The most capable Captain Joe guided us safely to our fishing grounds. His excellence extended to gaffing, netting and clearing line tangles. There’s a definite thrill each time a fish is hauled over gunwales. The lodge staff was helpful to our needs. The the staff was of a cruise ship caliber. The chef always delighted us with the breakfasts and dinners. There were good options available for our self-packed lunches. One can’t go hungry at Pybus Point.” –Milt J.
“Until this trip to Pybus Point, the single most vastly majestic location I have ever visited, I thought my life would be lived in the suburbs of some generic American city. But the day I arrived in that float plane and pulled up to Admiralty Island, Alaska, I felt an electricity and excitement I had never felt before. Everything I thought I wanted in life suddenly had no meaning and now my life goal is to be able to explore the world I thought I already knew, and Alaska was just the beginning. I can wholeheartedly say that Pybus Point has changed my life and the search for never-ending adventure has commenced with that first tug of the reel and the hauling in of the beautiful fish you see before you. So, thank you all who are involved with the lodge. Thank you for the opportunity to find my guiding light and helping me realize the life quest that I never knew was buried inside.” –Ryan L.
Fishing season peaks in July and August, however different types of fish are plentiful in different months.
Pybus Point Lodge makes no guarantees about fishing success. We simply can’t control nature. But rarely has a boat ever returned empty of cargo and in peak season guests regularly hit their legal catch limits.
