Q: Do I Need Fishing Experience?

A: Not at all! Whether you’ve never touched a rod or you’re a seasoned angler, our expert captains love helping guests of all skill levels reel in the catch of a lifetime. We provide all the gear you need—rods, reels, rain gear, and more—so you can pack light and leave the tackle at home. You’ll head out on fully equipped boats with friendly, knowledgeable guides who are passionate about making every trip memorable. Take a look at our custom-built fleet!

A guide will be available to help you fish, watch whales, see glaciers, and more.

Q: I’m Not Interested in Fishing. Do You Have Any Alternatives?

A: Absolutely—and they’re unforgettable. We want to help you experience the best Alaska trip possible, and that looks different for everyone. Whether you’d like to spend your days watching humpback whales breach on the way to the glacier or remote natural hot springs, taking a stunning hike through the breathtaking rainforest, or fishing the depths of the Alaskan ocean, we have skilled guides to make it happen. And if you’d like to explore on your own, you’re welcome to take our jet-powered skiffs to see the local wildlife, do some self-guided fishing, or spend a serene evening taking in the sunset. Some of our guests fish every day, and some don’t pick up a single fishing rod.

Either way, we’ll be thrilled to give you your ideal vacation. Watch a video about our excursions here.

Q: Is There an Added Price for Excursions?

A: Nope. Every guided activity—whether it’s deep-sea fishing, glacier sightseeing, or tidepooling with bald eagles overhead—is included in your trip. No extra planning. No surprise fees. Just choose what you’re excited about, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Q: What Is the Lodging Like? Will It Be Comfortable for My Family?

A. Our modern, cozy cabins are perfect for families of all sizes and ages—whether you're traveling with toddlers, teens, or grandparents. Every room is either brand new or freshly renovated, complete with thermostat-controlled fireplaces that keep things toasty no matter the weather outside.

After a big day reeling in fish, kayaking, or chasing waterfalls, you’ll have your own private bathroom with updated fixtures and a warm, refreshing shower to relax and recharge. It's all the comfort of home—just with a front-row view of wild Alaska.

Q: Why Choose a Lodge-Based Vacation Over a Cruise?

A: Cruises offer a taste of Alaska. At Pybus, you get the full-course experience. Instead of fighting crowds or watching wildlife from a deck rail, you’ll be exploring the coastline with your own guide, soaking up close encounters with whales, sea lions, otters, and more—no binoculars required. Plus, with all excursions included and a personalized itinerary, Pybus is often a better value than cruises where every shore adventure costs extra.

Our staff to guest ratio is roughly 1:1!  Meet our guides here.

Q: What’s Included in the Cost of the Trip?

A: Pretty much everything. Your all-inclusive stay covers:

  • Float plane flights from Juneau
  • Lodging in our cozy waterfront cabins
  • Three hearty meals a day, plus snacks and drinks (soda, coffee, energy drinks, sparkling water, bottled water)
  • All fishing and excursion gear
  • Guided fishing, excursions, and flight-seeing
  • Fish processing and packaging
  • Rain gear, boots, kayaks, and skiff access

The only things not included are your Alaska fishing license (watch: how to get an Alaska fishing license) and alcohol—which you can purchase at our on-site gift shop.

Q: What Is Dinner Like at the Lodge? Can You Accommodate Food Allergies?

A: Dinner is an experience in itself. Our menu features a mix of adventurous dishes and comfort food classics. Caught a halibut or salmon that day? Our expert chefs will be happy to prepare your catch for you—pan-seared, blackened, or grilled to perfection. There’s nothing like sitting down with a glass of wine and a dinner you caught that day. Every meal is served with a smile, a view, and a delicious dessert to top it off.

Allergies or dietary restrictions? No problem. We accommodate all dietary needs so every guest feels right at home at our table.

Q: What Should I Pack?

A: Great question. Temps at the lodge usually sit between 55° and 70°F, so layering is the name of the game. The good news? We’ve got you covered—literally. We’ll provide you with high-quality rain gear and sturdy deck boots, so you don’t need to worry about lugging bulky outerwear. And all your fishing and excursion gear? Already waiting for you at the lodge. That means more room in your suitcase for souvenirs… or extra snacks for the float plane.

Here’s our recommended packing list:

  • 4-5 warm shirts or layering t-shirts
  • 1 medium wt. jacket (sweatshirt or polar fleece)
  • Tennis or comfortable shoes for walking & travel
  • Swimsuit/shorts for the hot tub
  • Cell phone & chargers, binoculars, camera
  • Medications (please keep them with you)
  • Personal toiletries, hat, sunglasses
  • 2 pr. pants & 4-5 pr. underwear and warm socks
  • A printed copy of your fishing license

Q: Do You Provide Alcohol?

A: Yes! Though it’s not included in the trip cost, our gift shop is stocked with a great selection of wine, beer, seltzers, and spirits—including some local Alaskan favorites. Because of float plane weight limits, we recommend bringing just a bottle or two of your personal favorites if you’d like. Whether it’s a glass of red by the fireplace or a cold IPA on the dock, we’ve got something for everyone to unwind with.

Q: How Do We Get to Pybus?

A: The journey is part of the magic. From Juneau, you'll soar over fjords and forested islands in a float plane before landing right at our dock—a breathtaking start to your adventure. Weather not cooperating? No worries. We’ll whisk you to the lodge on our custom-built boats with heated cabins and full bathrooms, cruising through the scenic Inside Passage. Either way, you’re in for views you’ll never forget.

Q: Is Pybus a Good Place to Bring Kids?

A: Absolutely! Watching a child catch their first fish or spot a whale up close is something special. We’ve hosted families for years and love helping kids of all ages fall in love with the outdoors. We have rain gear, boots, and life jackets for little adventurers, plus fun evening activities like gold panning, shell painting, and games in the lodge.

It’s a trip they’ll talk about for years to come.

Q: How Is Our Fish Processed, and How Do We Get It Home?

A: At the end of each day, your captain will expertly fillet your fish at the dock—feel free to watch and learn! Our team then vacuum seals and flash-freezes your catch in a lined fish box, ready to head home with you. On departure day, your fish hops the first float plane back to Juneau and heads straight into the Seaplanes freezer at the airport, where we cover the cost of storage. You can check it as a luggage item on your flight or have us schedule delivery to your home.

Incredible Experience!

Pybus Point Lodge has some of the most stunning scenery I’ve ever seen. I mean absolutely breathtaking! In addition to the amazing fishing, I hiked to a beautiful secluded lake, soaked in some hot pots, saw several waterfalls, went whale watching, saw bears and all kinds of wildlife and marine life. As a photographer, photographing a wedding under a waterfall will remain a highlight of my life.

Wonderful and Magical Place

We had an amazing business retreat to Pybus Point Lodge.  Everything was top notch... the fishing, the staff, the boat captains, the food, the accommodations, and especially the scenery. I really liked that Pybus took care of everything from start to finish. Chef John is an amazing cook. We had delicious hot meals the entire trip.  The cabins were amazing and very comfortable.  The fishing was awesome and that’s coming from a guy that doesn’t fish that much.

We brought home 100lbs of fish!

My wife and I spent a week at Pybus Point this Summer. We had a beautiful, private room overlooking the bay and our own new, ensuite, private bathroom. What an amazing place for couples to get away together. We set our own breakfast time, met our boat captain after, fished the day along, and returned to clean up and enjoy a nice dinner at the restaurant. Next time Alaska is on the trip list, Sherrie and I will go together, and it will be to Pybus Point!

Fun in Alaska

This was my first trip to Pybus Point. I stayed in one of their new cabins. The accommodations were incredible, the view onto the bay in the mornings was stunning. I loved the staff and the food was really very good. All of this and they have new boats to take you out onto fairly calm waters to fish. The fishing guides were great. Overall a great experience. Definitely going back.
