Where We Fish and What You Can Catch

One of our favorite local fishing holes.

Pybus Point Lodge is located in the Tongass National Rainforest. Thanks to the heavy rain and snowfall that we get in our area of Alaska, there are multiple excellent freshwater rivers and streams close by the lodge. Depending on the time of year you visit our resort, these waterways are also full of spawning salmon.

While out exploring the rivers and streams that surround Pybus Point Lodge you can expect to see a variety of different salmon species. Alaska is home to five species of salmon, four of which can be found in the streams of Admiralty Island:  pink, silver, keta, and king salmon as well as Dolly Varden Trout.  If you’re wanting to target a specific species of salmon, check out this chart before planning your Alaska fishing vacation.

Some of our favorite spots to fly fish are located just a short distance from the lodge. The back of our very own Pybus Bay has an incredible stream where multiple species of salmon spawn throughout the summer. This is a great spot for beginner fishermen to learn how to fly fish since the area is clear of any obstructions that might make casting difficult. It’s also a great spot because the water is shallow and it’s usually easy to see the fish swimming beneath the surface.

If you’re an intermediate or expert fly fisherman, we’ll take you a little further into the wilderness for a more in depth freshwater experience. You can fish a variety of pools and rivers that offer a little more of a challenge–and reward. These areas are extremely remote and offer guests a spectacular opportunity to experience the Alaskan bush. They’re also great for potentially bear viewing opportunities–humans aren’t the only animals that like to fish these rivers! Just keep in mind that the water can get fairly deep, and the terrain can be difficult to cross. Because of this, we only recommend these more remote locations to guests who are up for an adventure.
