Are you looking for the perfect family friendly Alaska resort? Look no further than Pybus Point Lodge! Nestled in the heart of the Tongass National Forest, our all-inclusive resort offers luxurious accommodations, breathtaking scenery, and exciting activities that are fun for the whole family. Whether you're traveling with young children, teenagers, or grandma and grandpa we have something for everyone to enjoy. In this post, we'll share everything you need to know to plan your next Alaska family vacation at Pybus Point Lodge.
First things first, let’s address the elephant in the room. We know that Alaskan lodges can have a certain kind of reputation. There are a lot of great businesses scattered across Alaska’s rugged shores that might be fun for a guy's fishing trip, but not exactly the ideal spot for a family vacation.
Pybus Point Lodge on the other hand offers a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere to those who are looking to see the wild side of Alaska without having to actually rough it in the woods. What exactly sets Pybus apart? Well, our luxurious cabins and our comfy, custom-built boats certainly help, but it’s really our phenomenal staff that makes Pybus such an incredible place for families to visit.
We don’t want any salty old sailors at Pybus Point Lodge–we know that our guests choose to visit us for a fun and relaxing vacation, not to get yelled at by some crusty fishing guide for accidentally losing a fish. That’s why we’ve put so much effort into finding a staff of folks who are every bit as kind and fun to be around as they are passionate about the great outdoors!
When you stay with us, we’ll introduce you to your full-time, coast guard certified boat guide who’s available to take out fishing, whale watching, to see the nearby glaciers, and so much more. No matter who you’re paired up with, you can trust that they’re a professional whose main mission is always to help you have a great day.
To best set you up for success, we’ll ask you to fill out a short questionnaire before your vacation to gain a better understanding of what exactly it is that you want out of your vacation. We’ll take a look at your answers and make sure that we pair you up with a guide that’s just the right fit for you and your family.
Are you all a bunch of Alaskan fishing veterans? We’ve got a guide for you! Maybe a few of you know what you’re doing but you’ve brought some rookies along with you, no problem! Or maybe you're just planning a nice vacation for you, your partner, and your little kids and you’re not even interested in fishing–don’t sweat it! We’ll set you up with a guide who’s happy to simply lead the way and introduce you to Alaska’s exciting wildlife and show you some of the most beautiful scenery that Alaska has to offer.
Alaska is known for its natural beauty, and Pybus Point Lodge offers families the chance to experience it first hand. As far as boat activities go, we can take you out fishing, to tour the nearby glaciers, to look for whales, seals and sea lions, or to go to a nearby island where you can relax in a natural warm spring!
But that’s not all! In addition to your boating guide, we also have an adventure guide that can take you and your family out for all sorts of other exciting activities! Some of our family-friendly favorites are our rainforest hikes and our guided kayaking tours! Each of these excursions can be custom tailored to the individual needs of your group. Whether you’re looking for an easy-going way to see Alaska’s wilderness or you’re looking for an epic adventure, our adventure guide is here to help!
And don’t forget about freshwater fishing. No trip to Alaska is complete without at least trying to catch a salmon in one of our local streams, and our freshwater guide is always ready to take you out! In our experience, freshwater fishing is one of the most fun ways for kids to get the fishing experience, without the long boring boat rides from fishing hole to fishing hole. In fact, the stream in the back of our very own Pybus Bay has some of the best freshwater fishing in the area, and it’s just a five minute boat ride away! Here you and your kids can toss out a line, walk around, and have a blast without having to spend too much time away from the cabin.
The best part is that at Pybus Point Lodge you can always choose your own adventure. All you’ve got to do is let your guide know what you’d like to do and we’ll take care of the rest! After you arrive at the lodge, let us know what your ideal itinerary looks like and our guide team will work together to consider the weather, fishing conditions, and interests of your group to put together the perfect schedule.
And don’t worry if the whole group isn’t on the same page. There’s no wrong way to enjoy a vacation! Maybe dad and grandpa want to go on a guided saltwater fishing excursion while mom and the kids explore Alaska’s tide pools and search for sea creatures. Or maybe grandma and grandpa want to lounge around the lodge while the rest of the family visit the warm springs. At Pybus Point Lodge, that's no problem at all. We’re here to help everyone in the family have their own personal bucket list vacation.
At the end of the day, make sure to ask about the evening’s activity! After dinner, we always have something fun planned. Whether it’s panning for gold, a polar plunge, arts and crafts, a hike through the forest, or a natural history presentation your kids are sure to have a great time!
Now would be a good time to quickly talk about safety. We understand that traveling to a remote location with kids might be a little concerning to some parents. Rest assured that safety is our number one concern, and that we take every precaution possible. All of our boat captains are fully licensed and trained to handle nearly any type of emergency while out exploring Alaska’s waters. To make things even nicer, all of our boats are custom-built with state-of-the-art equipment and are specifically designed for the waters of the northern pacific. On board you can find everything from standard safety gear like life jackets and fire extinguishers, to the latest and greatest satellite navigation systems.
In the extremely unlikely event that anything does go wrong, our captains always maintain radio contact with both the U.S. Coast Guard and with the staff at the main lodge. All throughout lodge property we have VHF radios mounted to the wall that are being monitored by staff at all times.

At Pybus Point Lodge, we take pride in providing our guests with the best possible accommodations. All of our cabins are either brand new or newly renovated, and we have something for families of all sizes. Everything from single rooms or studio group cabins to our two story deluxe cabins are available throughout the entire summer. No matter which type of cabin you reserve you’ll have comfortable beds and private bathrooms. The deluxe cabins even come with a full kitchen, pool table, fireplace, and more. Wherever you stay we guarantee that you’ll have a world-class view of Pybus Bay right from your front porch!
While at the lodge, don’t forget to take advantage of our other amenities! You can relax and unwind in our scenic hot tub area, pump some iron in our gym, or book a massage with our on-site masseuse.
When you stay with Pybus Point Lodge, you’ll enjoy a gourmet dining experience right in our main lodge. Given that we’re on a remote island, we know that we’re the only dining option around, something that can be a bit concerning to families with small children.
We’ve done our absolute best to make sure that we have delicious dining options available for even the pickiest of eaters. Our breakfast includes a full buffet of breakfast staples like bacon, sausage, eggs, house-made yogurt, oatmeals, and a rotating menu of different types of yummy pancakes.
When it comes to lunch, our culinary team will have a delicious selection of premade sandwiches, salads, fruit cups, and cookies that are perfect to take with you as you explore Alaska. Guests at Pybus also have full access to our unlimited supply of snacks and drinks. Chips, candy, granola bars, jerky, trail mix, soda, energy drinks, sparkling water, coffee, tea, and more are all available to grab 24/7!
If you’re worried that your little ones won’t like any of the sandwiches that we have available, no worries! Just let us know and our culinary team is more than happy to make a special sandwich for any kids (or adults) that are looking for something a little different.
At dinner time you’re in for a treat. In the main dining area we have a full service dining experience ready for you where your waitress will tell you all about the Chef’s daily specials and about our lodge classics. Dinner comes complete with bread, salad, appetizers, entrees, and a new dessert special every night!
If you’re worried that that sounds a little too fancy for your family, have no fear. Out on our scenic deck we have a homestyle dinner buffet. Here we serve hearty, home-cooked favorites like chicken alfredo, fajitas, and fried chicken. This is also a great dining option for families who’d like to check out their own self-guided skiff and squeeze in a little more fishing or exploring before sunset.
Between all of these options, we should have something for everyone to enjoy! If you’re still worried about your little ones, give us a call and let us know! We’re more than open to making special arrangements for our guests.
At Pybus Point Lodge, we believe that families should be able to enjoy their vacation without worrying about hidden fees or extra charges. That's why we offer our guests a stress free, all-inclusive experience. Our vacation package includes transportation to and from the lodge, comfortable accommodations, delicious meals prepared by our gourmet kitchen, all activities and excursions, snacks and sodas, and even rain gear! Just about everything you and your family need is here waiting for you.
The only thing that you need to worry about is making sure that you bring the right clothes. Alaska’s weather can be a tad unpredictable, and you never know exactly what to expect. Some days are sunny and warm and others might be a bit chilly. Just make sure that you’re prepared to dress in layers. You’re going to want to have everything from a light t-shirt to a warm fleece ready to go at all times. This is especially important for kids. While we do provide you with a waterproof jacket, coveralls, and boots, you’re going to want to make sure that you and your kids have plenty to wear underneath.
What might start off as a cold and stormy morning can oftentimes turn into a warm sunny afternoon, and it’s best to be prepared for any weather situation.
