For many couples, there’s no greater joy than traveling the world together. All around the globe there are destinations full of beauty, romance, and guaranteed good time. One of the most magical–and often overlooked–destinations for couples is Alaska.
Alaska is home to some of the most shocking natural beauty that planet earth has to offer. Massive glaciers, lush rainforests, and the lively northern pacific ocean are the perfect backdrops for a romantic getaway. Whether you want to get out and have a hands-on Alaska experience, or you just want to lounge around in a natural paradise, Alaska is the ultimate destination for that dream romantic getaway.
To put it simply, Alaska is beautiful. And we’re not talking about a nice sunset kind of beauty–we’re talking about a life changing, awe inspiring, you-can’t-understand-unless-you’ve-been-there kind of beauty. Alaska is one of the last places on earth that is truly wild. It’s a place where you can witness bald eagles soaring above, humpback whales leaping out of the water, and a natural waterfall cascading off a snow capped mountain top all in the same afternoon–sometimes all at the same time.
There’s a certain magic that radiates from such beautiful scenery that attracts travelers looking for a romantic getaway. While some couples get their fix on a gondola ride through the canals of Venice or strolling through the crowded streets of Paris, some of us are looking for a more wild experience.
Alaska is the ultimate destination for couples looking to experience nature in a variety of different ways, and Pybus Point Lodge specializes in remote all-inclusive vacation experience for couples.
Pybus Point Lodge is not your average resort. We are a luxury, fishing and adventure lodge located on a remote island deep in the Alaskan wilderness. We offer our guests five star, ocean-front accommodations, gourmet dining, their own full-time adventure guide, and so much more. Pybus Point Lodge truly is one of the best Alaska resorts for couples.
Pybus Point Lodge is remote, like, really remote. We’re located on the southern edge of the Admiralty Island National Monument. An entire island that is protected by the federal government from any form of outside development. Aside from our small property and a small town of native Tlingit people on the other side of the island, there are no other human settlements on the entire 1,600 square mile island.
This makes traveling to our resort rather exciting. For most of our guests, their Alaska adventure begins with a flight in a small seaplane! Weather permitting, you’ll glide over mountain tops and secluded islands along Alaska’s Inside Passage. If you think that’s exciting, just wait until you find out what happens after you actually arrive!
Our brand new cabins were designed from the ground up to be the finest accommodations in Alaska. Every couple enjoys the same all-inclusive experience, whether you choose a deluxe room for two with a private balcony overlooking the bay or a studio cabin you’ll be front and center to Alaska’s beauty.
No matter what type of room you select you’ll have a comfy bed, private bathroom, and thermostat controlled fireplace. To make things even better you’ll only be a one minute walk from the dock, and that’s where the adventure really begins.
Thanks to our incredible, live-in culinary team you’ll be dining on delicious, homemade cuisine throughout the entirety of your vacation. Our pilot travels to Juneau to fly in fresh ingredients nearly every day. When we advertise gourmet dining, we mean it.
Each day of your romantic getaway will begin with breakfast in our rustic lodge. You’ll find a full breakfast feast with everything from classics like pancakes and bacon to specialty treats like venison sausage and house-made greek yogurt.
Since we know you’re going to want to make the most of your time in Alaska, we’ve helped you out by packing you a lunch to bring with you as you explore Alaska. Don’t worry, this isn’t the brown paper bag sack lunch your mom made you back in third grade, this is a high quality, prewrapped menu of sandwiches and treats made fresh by our chefs. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh smoked meat or a healthy salad with homemade dressing, you’ll find something delicious to take with you as you tour the glacier, fly to the warm springs, and catch your own Alaskan salmon.
And of course, every day you can join us in our main lodge for a hearty dinner. Our chef team has a full five course meal planned out for you with something new to try each day. From the moment you sit down at the table to the final bite of dessert you’re in for a culinary adventure!
One of our favorite dishes on the whole menu is the catch of the day! Upon request, the chef will prepare any type of fish you catch while out on the boat. If you’ve caught something that you want to try, just let our dock team know and they’ll filet the fish, clean it, and hand deliver it to the kitchen just moments after you arrive on our dock–it doesn’t get fresher than that!
Just moments after stepping foot on our dock you’ll be introduced to your full-time guide! Your guide will be a coast guard certified captain who’s well prepared to help you and your significant other have your own unique Alaskan experience. Every day your guide will ask you what you want to do. Whether you’d like to tour the nearby glacier, catch your own halibut, or to watch some spectacular creatures like humpback and orca whales and sea lions in their natural habitat, your guide will make it happen!
Before you arrive at our resort, we’ll ask you to fill out a short questionnaire so we can hand select the perfect guide for your groups based on your unique personalities and ideal itinerary. No matter who your guide is, you can count on spending your vacation with a deeply knowledgeable and passionate professional on a small, custom-built, luxury boat.
There is so much to do at Pybus that most of our guests have a hard time squeezing everything into just one vacation. It’s safe to say that you and your partner will have no shortage of activities and excursions to enjoy together.
In our humble opinion, no trip to Pybus is complete without a trip up the Tracy Arm Fjord to see the impressive Sawyer Glacier! This romantic boat tour is the ultimate activity for any couple. Your guide will take you deeper into the Inside Passage until you reach the entrance to the Tracy Arm Fjord. Once here, your expert guide will weave between icebergs as you journey through the massive fjord until you reach the majestic Sawyer Glacier!
One of the best excursions for couples is our Baranof Warm Springs excursion! These naturally occurring warm springs are nestled right up against the raging Baranof River and offer couples the perfect opportunity to relax together in the serenity of the Alaskan wilderness. If you want we can even fly you and your partner to the springs in our small seaplane!
Of course, one of the biggest reasons that Pybus Point Lodge is one of the best Alaska resorts for couples is the incredible wildlife that surrounds the lodge. Remember how we said that our lodge is in a remote location? Well that means that Pybus is perfect for wildlife encounters! Bald eagles, seals, and even humpback whales can all be seen right from your front porch. In fact, bald eagles are so common at our resort that it’s not uncommon to see groups of 20 hanging out near our dock at certain times of the year.
Our island is also the greatest place in North America for brown bear viewing. We know that sounds like an exaggeration, but it’s true! There are more brown bears on Admiralty Island than in the rest of the United States COMBINED. In fact, the indigenous Tlingit people call Admiralty Kootznoowoo, which means “fortress of the bear!”
While you and your partner stay at the lodge, let us know if you want to see some wildlife! Your personal guide will be more than happy to take you whale watching or take you to the rookery, a little island that is jam-packed with sea lions!
One of our personal favorite excursions for couples is our Alaska kayaking experience. Kayaking is simply one of the greatest ways to experience the Alaskan outdoors. As you glide across the water you’ll see some of Alaska’s greatest scenery and most impressive animals like bald eagles, seals, and maybe even a brown bear.
At Pybus Point Lodge, we offer a few different options for kayakers, and what you choose is up to you! If you’re looking for a guided experience, we’ve got you covered. Our resident wilderness guide can take you out to a variety of different locations depending on your preference. Some of the most popular options are kayaking around the gorgeous Pybus Bay at sunrise or kayaking to the nearby tide pools where you can see and learn about a variety of different invertebrates that are unique to Alaskan waters.
If you’re reading this article though, we know that you’re looking for the best possible Alaska trip for couples, which means getting some quality alone time in nature. If that’s you, you’ll love our self-guided kayaking experience. All you’ve got to do is let us know that you and your partner want to take some kayaks out for a spin and we’ll set you up with all the gear you need! You and your partner are free to explore the waters near the lodge for as long as you like on an adventure of your own!
Of course one of the most popular reasons to visit Alaska is hiking. Hiking is an excellent way to get up close and personal to the plants, animals, and landscapes that make Alaska so magical. Lucky for you, our Alaska all-inclusive can set you up with everything from boots and rain gear to a professional guide so you can have the ultimate Alaska experience.
Though the land around the lodge is thickly forested, there are a number of fun hikes for couples of all abilities near the lodge, one of which being the Steele Trail. The Steele Trail is a short well maintained trail that will take you deep into the heart of Alaska brown bear territory. But there’s no need to worry, we’ll set you up with your own guide that will keep you safe while teaching you all about the plants and animals of the rainforest.
If you’re up for an adventure, we’ll boat you over to the nearby Donkey Bay for a hike to a picture-perfect waterfall. After arriving at Donkey Bay, you’ll hop off the boat and follow your guide upriver through the rainforest until you reach your final destination, a naturally occurring waterfall that cascades over a rocky cliff into a crystal clear pool below. If you’re looking to take a cute couples photo in a location that will make all your instagram followers jealous, this is one of the best spots in all of Alaska!
If you and your partner are looking for an Alaska couples fishing trip, look no further than Pybus Point Lodge! Every party that stays with us will be paired up with their own expert fishing guide on their own high quality boat. While you don’t have to fish, many of our guests like to spend at least one day out fishing with their captain. The water near Pybus Point Lodge is home to some of the best halibut, salmon, rockfish, and ling cod fishing conditions in the entire world, and is the perfect destination for beginner and expert fishermen alike.
We know that fishing guides can have a bit of a reputation for being hot headed, especially in Alaska. That’s why we’ve worked so hard to assemble a team of fishing guides that aren’t simply experts in their field, but they’re also great people to spend the day on the boat with. At Pybus Point Lodge, we’re here to have a good time and enjoy Alaska. So if you’re a fishing rookie, no problem! Our guides are here to share their tips and tricks and help you catch a fish. If you lose a fish–even if you lose a rod–no big deal! That’s all just part of the learning process. In our experience, it’s actually the rookies who tend to be the most successful since they haven’t learned any bad habits, and they usually do a better job of listening to the guides.
To make things even better, we’ll filet, rinse, vacuum seal, and freeze all the fish you catch free of any additional charges. We’ll even pack all of your fish into a sturdy, mylar insulated box that can be easily taken home in your carry-on luggage. That way you can eat all your delicious wild alaskan fish when you get home!
Everything we’ve talked about and more is all included at Pybus Point Lodge. From the little things like rain gear and boots to the big things like wildlife tours and gourmet dining, everything at Pybus is free of any additional charges making us one of the best all-inclusive vacation spots for couples in all of Alaska. From the moment you arrive at our lodge to the moment you leave, every little thing will be taken care of by our phenomenal staff so you never need to worry about a thing.
