The fishing near Pybus Point Lodge is unparalleled. Located in Alaska’s famous Inside Passage, our waters are protected from nasty weather by a large cluster of islands which makes for ideal fishing conditions. Near our lodge you can catch everything Alaska is famous for: halibut, rockfish, ling cod, pacific cod, coho salmon, pink salmon, keta salmon, and king salmon!
Thanks to the ideal fishing conditions and robust fish populations, guests rarely leave our lodge empty-handed. Every guest gets to bring home as much cleaned, vacuum-sealed, and professionally packaged fish as they can catch, free of any additional charges!
Unlike other lodges in the area, we don’t have a limit on the amount of fish that our dock team will process and package for you. We know that you came to Alaska with the goal of stuffing your home freezer full of wild caught fish, and we want to make sure that you can achieve your goal as easily as possible.
That’s why we’ve invested in our state of the art fish processing facility located right on our docks. Every fish brought in will be fileted, rinsed, vacuum sealed, and frozen only a few feet from where the boats dock. Just moments after returning from the day’s fishing trip our dock and captain teams will work together to ensure that the fish you cook up at home is as fresh and high quality as possible.
The first step in the process is fileting your fish. This will be done by our guides first thing after docking. Once the fish is fileted, a member of our dock team will carry it into our fish processing house. Here the filets will be thoroughly rinsed by hand one by one. After rinsing the fish it will be packed into a color coded and labeled bag. Each fish species has its own color and has the name of the species prominently displayed. Within each package you’ll have two servings of ready to cook meat. After packaging the fish it’s immediately vacuum sealed and transported into our freezer.
You might be wondering what exactly you're supposed to do with all of this frozen fish once it’s time to head back home. Well, like with everything else we’ve done our best to make the process as smooth as possible.
Throughout your stay at the lodge our dock team carefully tracks each and every package of fish ensuring that all the fish goes home with the correct guest. While you're out fishing, the dock team works to pack the previous day's fish into a fish box for each guest.
These fish boxes are made from reinforced cardboard and lined with mylar inserts that are specially designed to keep your fish frozen for up to 72 hours–this should be plenty of time to preserve the fish throughout your entire flight home!
Pro Tip: Planning to explore the Juneau area after your lodge stay? You can rest easy when it comes to storing your catch. While nearly all hotels in the area offer freezers for guest use, we've gone a step further for your convenience. Specifically, at Juneau’s airport, we provide complimentary freezer space for fish. This service ensures that your prized catch remains in perfect condition until your departure. Should you have any questions about managing your fish post-lodge visit, don't hesitate to reach out for assistance!
As previously mentioned, we’re committed to processing as much fish as you can catch, at no extra cost. For most guests, this equates to taking home approximately one box per person. Designed with airline regulations in mind, each box can hold up to 49 pounds—the maximum weight for checked luggage on most major airlines, ensuring hassle-free travel with your catch.
When the time comes to leave the lodge, all you need to worry about is your luggage. Our dock team will have your fish boxes ready to go. Depending on the weather, you’ll be returning to Junea via seaplane or boat. Whichever mode of transportation you take, your fish boxes will be loaded onto the vehicle for you.
Once you return to Juneau you’ll be responsible for transporting your fish. That being said, we do everything we can to make sure that you won’t run into any troubles. As we said, your boxes will all be the proper size and weight for carry-on luggage and you shouldn’t run into any issues with the airlines. If you prefer to have your fish shipped to your house instead of taking it on the plane with you, let us know after you arrive at the lodge. We’ll help you make all the proper arrangements.
